Briiv - Air Filter
Briiv In. Breathe out.
Meet Briiv, the world's most sustainable air purifier. Made from earth-friendly materials and filters that are grown and not made, Briiv is brilliant if you're wanting fresher, cleaner air to improve your health in a way that doesn't cost the Earth.
Three Layers of Natural Filters: Briiv’s unique technology is perfect for removing allergens such as pet dander, dust, VOC's and all manner of pesky particles which can fill your home or office with unhealthy air. Three naturally made materials combine to capture microscopic particulate matter which helps you and your family breathe easier, think clearer, sleep better and rid your personal environment of pollution which plagues our lives.
Reindeer Moss – The green moss in the top of the Briiv is a naturally grown, ethically harvested reindeer moss which is incredible at trapping particles in its structure. This layer will comfortably remove PM10 sized particles like pollen and other allergens such as pet dander.
Coconut – Taken from waste coconut product and re-purposed into a fantastic filtration fibre, this dense mesh targets particles down to PM5 in size.
Nano Matrix Filter – A newly engineered bespoke filter which combines both the elements of nanofibres and carbon. Activated charcoal from waste walnut husks which pulls VOCs and odours from the air, so Briiv not only filters the air, it smells better too. Developed originally for the medical industry, cutting edge nano-fibres remove fine harmful particles from the air.

Science
Did you know 7 million people die prematurely from air pollution every year (WHO, 2023)? Briiv are passionate about changing this by improving healthspan and longevity whilst doing as little harm to the planet as possible.
Clean air is what it's all about. Pollutants can come in many forms and may come from sources you wouldn’t expect. While people are generally aware of air pollution from fuel combustion, transport, and industry, they may be less aware of pollutants from cooking or cleaning products in the home, or pets running around (WHO, 2023).
Reducing all of these particulates and toxins in the air we breathe can help to improve our health in several different ways:
Cognitive Function: Recent evidence shows that air pollutants are having noticeable detrimental effects on brain function. For instance, a study by Zhang, Chen & Zhang (2018) that long-term exposure (> 3 years) to air pollution impedes cognitive performance in verbal and maths tests possibly due to effects on the brains white matter. A 1 standard deviation (SD) increase in the Air Pollution Index (API) over three years before testing correlated with a 1.132-point decrease in verbal test scores, which equates to 0.108 SD.
Improved Respiration: Fine smoke particles, pollen, pet dander and dust can cause respiratory inflammation and exacerbate pre-existing health conditions such as asthma or COPD (Peacock et al., 2011; De Sario et al., 2013). By filtering out harmful particles, air purifiers can help reduce respiratory difficulties, enhance lung function and promote overall respiratory health (De Sario et al., 2013; Peacock et al., 2011).
Better Sleep Quality: Clean air can lead to better sleep. Poor air quality, often linked to increased levels of particulate matter, has been associated with decreased sleep efficiency and a higher incidence of sleep-disordered breathing, such as sleep apnea (Yu et al., 2019). Studies have shown that removing indoor pollutants can improve both sleep duration and quality by reducing the irritants that disrupt breathing during the night (Cao et al., 2020). This is especially beneficial for individuals with conditions like allergies or asthma that can affect sleep.
Removal of VOC's: Volatile Organic Compounds, which are emitted from various household products such as paints, cleaning supplies, and furniture, can have detrimental effects on human health (EPA, 2019, Montero-Montoya et al., 2018). Repeated, prolonged exposure can result in negative health effects, ranging from respiratory issues to organ damage (Das, Gaur & Verma, 2004; Liu et al., 2022). Air purifiers with activated carbon filters effectively remove VOCs by adsorbing these gases onto the filter surface, thus reducing their concentration indoors (Das, Gaur & Verma 2004).
Protection Against Mould Bacteria and Viruses: Air purifiers can also play a crucial role in reducing the presence of microorganisms such as mold spores, bacteria, and viruses. Studies carried out since COVID-19 have found that viruses can use dust particles to hitch a ride, allowing them to travel further and spread around a room. Air purifiers remove dust and stop this from happening (Vijayan et al., 2015)
It is important to note that while air purifiers can remove airborne mould spores they cannot treat the source of the mould, and a dehumidifier would be more suitable at making an environment where mould will not want to grow.
Allergen Relief: Seasonal allergies can be a burden for many, and they aren’t limited to summer pollen! In autumn and winter mould, pet dander and dust mites can be big allergy triggers, especially because you might spend more time indoors at this time of year (Gherasim & Blay, 2020). An air purifier is able to pull the polluted air through layers of filters to remove these allergens, leaving clean, fresh air that won’t trigger your allergy symptoms (Gherasim & Blay, 2020).
It is important to remember that air purifiers don’t treat the allergic reactions, they can reduce and remove the allergens causing the problems.
In conclusion, given the substantial health risks associated with poor air quality, investing in an air purifier is a proactive step towards creating a cleaner, safer, and healthier indoor environment.

What's the difference between Briiv, Briiv 2 and Briiv 2 Pro?
How much power does a Briiv use?
Powered by 5v USB, means you spend only £3.64 per year running Briiv. Better for the planet and better for you.
A Hourly power consumption (level 4) | 0.005 kW |
B Usage | 6 hours per day |
C Tariff | 33.2p per kWh |
D Yearly power consumption | 10.95 kWh |
E Cost per day (24 hours) | 0.02p |
Yearly electricity cost calculation | C(A*B*365)/100=£3.64 |
Does Briiv have to be on every day?
We'd recommend running the Briiv once per day to keep the air clear. Every time you leave the house, open a window, cook, or use cleaning products you can introduce new pollutants into the home which will need filtering out.
How long do the filters last?
The coconut, moss, and activated carbon filters are built to last up to twelve months, with the nano matrix filter needing to be replaced every three months. This is on the assumption that Briiv runs at speed 2 for 24 hours a day.
See below for how long the filters will last on the different levels when running continuously:
How loud is Briiv?
Briiv's are very quiet but the noise level of Briiv changes depending on the speed level. The higher the speed level, the louder Briiv is. Shown below are the noise at different speeds is measured from 1m away from the unit.
Can I use Briiv without WIFI?
Briiv and Briiv 2 works both with or without a WiFi connection.
Units feature touch control buttons, so you don’t have to have them connected to the internet in order for them to work. You can still control the speed, and set the air quality monitor on a Briiv 2 Pro, using the touch interface.
If you don’t connect to WiFi you won’t be able to control Briiv via the app, and for a Briiv 2 Pro you'll be unable to amend the automatic activation air quality intervals, or use Zone Mode.
Does Briiv need batteries?
Briiv does not contain or require any batteries to work. Briiv utilises a 5V USB connection to power the unit. This means it can run from mains power, laptops or even a power bank.
How does Briiv compare to a HEPA filter?
Briiv works in a similar way to standard HEPA filters in that it filters the air to remove pollutants such as dust, pollen, and pet dander. It also has activated carbon in the nano matrix filter which works to remove VOCs and odours.
The main difference is that HEPA filters are slightly more efficient, and can do the job of Briiv in a shorter amount of time. Of course, Briiv makes up for this by using almost entirely natural materials and has a low running cost, especially when compared to standard air purifiers on the market.
Briiv filters also don't use nearly the same amount of plastic as a standard HEPA filter. Normally these filters would be housed in a plastic frame, but in the case of Briiv we use a cardboard housing which can be recycled at the end of its life.
